Marketing 101

So you have your business, what's next? Marketing.

    I have had clients tell me that they have spent 1000's of dollars to have someone advise them on how they should market their business. Marketing Guru's love to take your money to tell you that you need to find a niche, learn and understand it, and advertise according to your desired level of involvement and return. Great advice, but that was taught in the Marketing 101 course you took at Community College. Here are my 2 cents on the subject.

    Another part of marketing is advertising. Marketing your business would be making it look good, while advertising would be making it well known. Certain signs work in certain situations so be sure to understand what your needs are. If you are planning on placing signs infront of your job sites, have me make you a sign that highlights the business name and services. For a sign that will be broadcast accross the valley, I will focus on highlighting the most profitable deal you have and the phone number to reach you. These signs will be your advertising while the more business oriented signs can work for your marketing.

    The key to marketing is to be your consumer. Think, act, talk, Be your consumer. Everyones heard, "Love what you do", I say, "Want what you offer". If you don't want what you are offering, how can you understand how to market it and sell it. This is an exercise in roll playing. Enjoy it, Get creative, but most of all, Be who you are selling to. Soon you will see how easy it is to reach a person in need, namely the person who NEEDS what you are offering. WANT'S Sell Sometimes, NEED'S Sell All The Time.
